Talk About Your PlansHow we plan and build your home
Some choices belong on the first sketch. Others can wait until you know more about the lot. Our custom home planning guide can help you prepare for that first conversation.
First Conversation
Bring the lot address if you have one, a plan or photo you like, and the two things you most want from your home. If you’re still looking for land, tell us which towns you’re considering.
Design and Planning
Walk through the floor plan as if it were a weekday at home. Which rooms need privacy? Where does the family gather? Use those answers to decide what belongs together and what needs more space.
Construction
Before work begins, review what’s included, which selections are still open and how you’ll approve changes. Keep the plans and selections handy when questions come up on site.
Final Walkthrough and Handover
Walk through the rooms with your plans in hand. Make a list of anything that needs attention, and write down who to contact if a question comes up after move-in.
Start with the rooms you use every day

Think about a typical evening at home. Would you like a kitchen where guests can sit while you cook, a quiet place to work, or a covered spot to eat outside? Those details give us a starting point for your floor plan.
Our inspiration gallery shows examples of room layouts, lighting and finishes. Bring a favorite image to your first conversation and tell us what caught your eye.

Will this plan work on your lot?
- 01
The approach from the street
Picture pulling into the driveway. Where would a guest park, and how would they find the front door?
- 02
Windows and daylight
Choose a view you’d like to enjoy from inside. On the plan, check what you’d see from the kitchen sink or your favorite chair.
- 03
Storage in the right place
Trace the trip from the garage with groceries, bags or sports gear. Is there a place to set things down before you reach the living room?
- 04
A patio connected to the house
If you want to eat outside, look at the route from the kitchen to the table. A door in the right place can matter more than extra patio space.
Custom Home Design and Construction
You may have land and drawings already, or just a few ideas for a home. Tell us where the project stands and which part you’d like to discuss.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ask which costs cover the house, which cover site work and which are still allowances. For example, does the driveway amount cover the full distance from the road to the garage? Compare estimates using the same scope.
Mark the change on the current plan and explain what you want it to solve. Before approving it, ask how it affects the adjoining rooms, the work already planned, the price and the schedule.
Bring up your target move-in date at the first meeting. Ask what can be estimated from the drawings and what still depends on site preparation or material choices. As the plan takes shape, check which dates are firm and which could move.
We welcome custom home projects in San Antonio and nearby communities, including Boerne, New Braunfels and Seguin, and as far north as Austin. If you have a lot in mind, send us its address or the nearest town so we can talk through your plans.
Ask for the written terms that apply to your project. Check what’s covered, how long each part lasts, who handles a service request and whether any equipment has separate manufacturer coverage.

Tell us what you’re planning
Where would you like to build?
A street address is helpful if you have a lot. If you’re still looking, tell us what draws you to the area. A short note is enough to start a conversation.
Still sketching out ideas?
Try walking through a floor plan with a familiar task in mind, or compare what two proposals say about the same kitchen. Our planning guide shows how.
